春節(jié)過后，馬上就到了咱們的傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日元宵節(jié)。通常外國人對咱們這種傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日都比較好奇，和老外聊到元宵節(jié)的時候，我們可以說什么呢?
上海新東方酷學酷玩夏令營介紹，元宵節(jié)的英文是lantern festival。因為正月十五是一年中第一個月圓之夜，所以叫元宵。
the 15th day of the 1st lunar month is the chinese lantern festival because the first lunar month is called yuan-month and in the ancient times people called night xiao. the 15th day is the first night to see a full moon. so the day is also called yuan xiao festival in china.
說完了起源，咱們說說習俗，元宵節(jié)我們做什么呢?我們賞花燈(colorful lanterns)、猜燈謎(solve the puzzles)、吃元宵(yuanxiao，glutinous rice ball)。
元宵有甜的也有咸的，甜的通常會用糖(sugar)、胡桃(walnuts), 芝麻(sesame),桂花(osmanthus flowers), 玫瑰(rose petals)、棗泥(jujube paste)等東西做餡. 咸的就可能會用肉餡(minced meat)或者蔬菜做餡了。
